We all feel stressed from time to time. Provided the incident passes and we return
to normal, there is no problem. For some, however, the stress never goes away and for
days, weeks, or even months, the amount of stress remains at a high level. Stress and
pressure are not the same. We can all work under pressure for a long time. When we feel
we cannot complete a task or do it satisfactorily, it becomes stressful.
You can see the signs of stress in the physical complaints that arise. Stressed
people often have migraines, back pain, colds and flu. Unless the level is reduced
there may be a nervous breakdown.
If you feel under stress, you should look for the root cause and seek a way of
reducing it. You may have a job, family of partner that causes you stress. Though this
makes avoidance more difficult, an answer must be found.
Bear in mind that what is stressful to you may be an easy life for someone else. If
you are asked to do something that you like doing, you will be able to take on lots of
it. If the job is one that you hate or are not good at, even a small amount can be
stressful.
Psychotherapy cannot make you accept stress, but it can allow you to understand it
and cope with it. In the long term, you must find a way of taking away the factors
that cause the stress. Treatment in the Clinic centres around identifying the
underlying causes and seeking ways of resolving them. In this way you will be able
to live a more stress free life.
